Candle Care & Safety
Candle Care & Safety:
How to avoid tunneling & memory rings
Tunneling is when the candle burns down through the wax without reaching the sides. This happens when the candle is extinguished before it melts an even layer from the wick to the edge of the container.
To avoid tunneling let the candle burn for 4 hours or until you see a nice even layer of liquid wax across the candle top.
Use the lid to prevent dust settling on the candle top
Foreign debris like dust can impact the scent of the candle when they’re sucked up and burnt by the flame.
Keeping the lid on when the candle isn’t lit keeps the dust out.
You also get a lovely aroma when you take it off.
Safety
Trim the wick to 6mm before each burn
Always burn the candle within sight
Even though we know everyone wants to get their hands on a tararua candle, its best to keep them out of reach of children and pets
Burn your candle on a level and fire resistant surface.
Your candle should not be burnt near anything that might catch on fire
It's also best to keep burning candles at least 10cm away from each other
